| The Retractor System such as this one used on
the Ford Focus, functions due to the differential deformation between
the dash and cowl during crash. The deformation engages a cam
which causes the pedal to retract to a safe position.
The system provides the required 50mm of brake pedal retraction.
- Consideration for differing vehicle weights and
body configurations is incorporated in the design as is an allowance
for body spring-back following the crash.
- As with all KSR systems, the system is
intrinsically safe having no effect on the brake system until a
crash occurs.
- This system was developed and put in production
within six months from the initial request by Ford.
